Following his win at last night’s 2019 Q Awards, Kano spoke to Q Magazine where he made a moving speech on the importance of his acknowledgement at the ceremony.
With many years of experience in the scene and several projects under his belt, the veteran artist was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution To Music award by Q last night. When asked by Q how winning the award felt, Kano reflected on the early days of grime, shouting out artists such as Wiley, Dizzee Rascal and Lethal B, before praising newer artists such as Little Simz and Stormzy.
Speaking on his entry into music, Kano said: “It was just a hobby, we didn’t know that it would turn out like this. It was purely just for passion and that’s just what we loved to do.”
Also scooping up Q Awards last night were Dizzee Rascal who won the Innovation In Sound award, while Stormzy picked up the prize for Best Solo Act.
The wins from the three artists is definitely a sign of the times, and Kano’s interview with Q provides insight into the journey which made it all possible.
