As we await the highly-anticipated Jesus is King album which was due to drop today (October 25), Kanye West sat down with the Beats 1 host Zane Lowe for an unfiltered conversation; touching on everything from the album, the film, his Sunday Service, mental health and all that falls in-between.
West took to Twitter this morning to thank his fans for their patience and loyalty and explained why the album was yet to drop.
Inviting Beats 1’s Zane Lowe over to his ranch in Cody, Kanye touches how he was exposed to pornography from a young age, leading to a “gateway into full-on pornography addiction” following the death of his mother in 2007. Telling Lowe: “It’s affected almost every choice I made for the rest of my life from age five to now, having to kick the habit”.
During the interview that runs for just under two hours, Kanye moved on from addictions to discuss his new deeper faith in God. Religion has often featured in Kayne’s music, starting way back on his debut album with tracks such as “Jesus Walks”. Continuing his cross in faith and music, West told Lowe that despite Jesus is King not being officially released, he’s already got another album planned: Jesus is Born.
He plans to release Jesus is Born on Christmas Day as his Christianity now plays a key role within his life. “Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me.”
Kanye went on to discuss his role within politics as he was previously criticised for wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap whilst supporting Trump before having a change of heart. Telling Lowe that himself and Trump “are both dragon energy” and “for the greatest artist in human existence to put a red hat on was God’s practical joke to all liberals. Like, ‘No! Not Kanye!’”.
Continuing to discuss the White House, Kanye reveals that he plans for a future presidential run. “There will be a time when I will be the president of the US and I will remember any founder that didn’t have the capacity to understand culturally what we were doing.”
Despite no sign of the new album yet, for Kanye West fans, the interview acts as an unfiltered look into where the artist is and what he is working on, information which fans have been craving amongst multiple albums rumours.
