In his first UFC fight since the infamous battle against Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov has returned the ring and brutally defeated Dustin Poirier.
Taking place in Abu Dhabi last night, the explosive fight resulted in Khabib keeping his lightweight belt and title.
Khabib placed Poirier in a chokehold to end the match and achieved a score of 28-0-0.
The Russian fighter was commended by sports media for his display of sportsmanship and respect towards Dustin Poirier at the end of the match.
After the fight, Khabib said in his post-match interview, “This sport is about respect. The number one thing in this, Mixed Martial Arts, it’s about respect. You have to respect the gym, you have to respect your opponent, your sparring partners, teammates. You have to respect coaches, you have to respect everybody”.

Following the fight, Khabib’s rival Conor McGregor took to Twitter to taunt the fighter and demand a rematch following their last fight.
McGregor posted, “Book my rematch for Moscow”.
The president of the UFC, Dana White, also confirmed in an interview that a rematch between McGregor and Khabib is a possibility.
Dana said, “Tony Ferguson gets the next shot and obviously, if for whatever reason Tony can’t take the fight or doesn’t want to fight at that time, then we would figure out what’s next. But yeah, Conor would make a lot of sense. Conor McGregor wants that fight really badly, and I’m sure the fans would want to see it. So we’ll see how this whole thing plays out”.
