Krept and Konan have had a meeting with Croydon Council today to launch a foundation to help nurture young talent. They both appeared at Croydon Council’s cabinet meeting, where they mentioned a new scheme they wish to put forward in order to help young talent from their local area succeed within the creative industries, hoping they can create opportunities for the next generation and help give something back to their community.
The boys from the 7 have seen a great deal of success both nationally and internationally, with their track “Don’t Waste My Time” recently being featured in the latest instalment in the Rocky movie series, “Creed”.
The ‘Positive Direction Foundation’, or PD Foundation, will be aimed at youths from 11 to 18 and will include industry experts visiting local secondary schools and deliver workshops on song writing, graphic design, programming and sound engineering.
Once the young talent have finished producing their work within their workshops, it will then be showcased to Krept & Konan at a graduation ceremony. The schools involved will be offered up to 30 places for the scheme which will see more than 100 students in total working with industry figures, including the likes of design agency Kritikal Media, singer Nia and musician and sound engineer JC.
The original launch of the foundation came from a conversation Krept and Konan had at Parliament with Croydon North MP Steve Reed, in which they addressed the problems that young people are facing in the industry.
Mr Reed commented on their meeting saying: “When Krept and Konan came to see me in Parliament it was obvious they really wanted to put something back into the community they came from. They are an inspiration to many young people and I’m convinced this project will make a real difference.”
On the thought behind creating the Foundation, Konan mentioned that he has, “lost and gained so much over the years, but now in my position, I want to breathe life back into the community. I chose to give something back to Croydon because it made me who I am today.”
Krept also commented, “We want to give the youth of Croydon a chance that we never had. Paving the way for the next generation is a matter of the heart, and the PD Foundation is in our hearts.”
The foundation will receive £10,000 funding from the council. Tony Newham, who is the council leader, shared: “We are delighted to be working with Krept and Konan on this fantastic project that will help motivate and inspire young people from across the borough. The utmost credit must go to this talented duo for their desire to help and give back to other young people in their home town. It shows how passionate they are about sharing in their success and leaving a positive and lasting legacy on their own community.”
Long live the Young Kingz!
