Over the last five years, we’ve witnessed the rise of the new age Australian rap scene. Inspired by their UK counterparts and building on the legacies of the likes of 360 and Kearser, a new generation of Australian artists have sought to establish themselves on the global rap scene. Often sporting balaclavas and Nike Tech-Fleeces, they have drawn clear inspiration from UK drill culture, whilst endearing to put their own distinct spin on the sound.
Ay Huncho is a shining example of this trend, and stands as an undeniable pillar of the current Australian drill scene. His signature aggression combined with his clever flow patterns has led to significant international attention, whilst back home he deals with issues of police harassment not dissimilar to what UK artists face here.
On the other hand, KTM Henny is an artist who is still starting out in his respective career; even within Australia he is regarded as an underground artist currently. What they both share though is an unquestionable level of skill and authenticity. As a result, it makes sense for them to join forces for a blockbuster international track; and that they have done, tapping Leicester’s wewantwraiths for “One Way”.
This track has the potential to make waves on both sides of the world. Ay Huncho and KTM Henny take responsibility for the verses, rapping with both poise and conviction about the reality of their lives in Sydney and Brisbane respectively. wewantwraiths provides the cherry on top, with a wavy chorus packed with catchy melodies and quotables. The accompanying visuals also add to the potential of this track. Shot in Brisbane, we see all three artists performing together and generally enjoying themselves, seemingly illustrating the genuine nature of both their relationships and this track.
Be sure to check out “One Way” above and keep it locked on GRM Daily for further music from KTM Henny.
