East London’s KwolleM is back. And in very fine form. This latest instalment in his Mellow Grime venture is the first drop since his mellow take on the Dizzee Rascal hit “Stand Up Tall” (which can be heard here) – other than taking a brief step away for a GRM Daily exclusive in the form of “I Won.”
“Bad Boy Sound” sees KwolleM combine the a cappella of Bloodline’s 2012 hit alongside his own instrumental to turn the track into a mellow amalgamation of Grime, Garage and 2-step that sounds like it’s come right out of the early 2000s. Some parts even sound like they’d fit right in if you were playing Crash Bandicoot.. overall, a track certain to stir up feelings of nostalgia.
With previous instalments including Skepta’s “Bad Boy“, Tempa T’s “Next Hype”, Wiley’s “Mistakes” and a whole load more, KwolleM’s debut tape/EP is shaping up to be a very solid project – whether these early insights into the sound make the cut or not.
