Lawrence Okolie has become the WBO cruiserweight champion after knocking out Krzysztof Glowacki in the sixth round at Wembley’s SSE Arena.
Okolie defeated Krzysztof Glowacki with a finishing punch and the referee intervened to declare Okolie the winner.
Okolie remains undefeated and continues his prolific career which spans 16 fights.
In his post-fight interview with Sky News, Okolie said:
“Obviously I’m happy. I feel blessed. I was really calm throughout the week. It’s amazing to be able to put an exclamation mark on my life with a world title. Anything you want in life, if you believe, you can do it.”
“I have to thank Shane for the gameplan. I was sure I would get to him, but Shane reminded me not to rush. I said I’d get it done between rounds five and eight.
“Four or five years ago, Eddie Hearn saw a boy from Hackney and said ‘if you win a world title, I’ll buy you a gold Rolex Sky Dweller’. Now I want my Sky Dweller. And he said I’d get another one if I unify, too!”
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s expressed his excitement following the fight.
Hearn said, “My goodness was he good enough. Not just good enough, an absolute masterclass. The jab, the footwork, the right hand. The work on the inside, the spinning off.”
“That was a good enough performance to beat any cruiserweight in the division, and that’s what we want to do now. “We don’t want to muck around, we want to go straight for all the titles and unify the division and then move up to heavyweight.”
“He’s got scary power, but he used to be all power. Now he’s got the jab, he’s got the movement, he’s got the knowledge up here.”
Outside of boxing, Lawrence also boasts musical talent and recently dropped his single “TKO” on the GRM channel.
