Ms. Deacon, the mother of a six-year-old terminally ill boy requests for medical cannabis to be legalised for special cases in the UK.

Alfie Dingley from Kenilworth in Warwickshire, suffers up to over 3,000 violent seizures and 48 hospital visits every year.  Despite being illegal in the UK, Alfie’s parents are pushing for medical cannabis to be legalised to give their son a “happy life”.

Hannah Deacon, the mother of the young boy, took her soon to the Netherlands where cannabis-based medication is legal. After receiving the treatment Ms. Deacon describes how her son went 24 days without a single attack, but was unable to continue the treatment due to not having medical insurance in the Netherlands. The family were forced with no option but to return home.

Ms Deacon stated, “We never imagined how well it would work. We’ve found something that makes him happy and now we’ve got to take it away.” She describes the cannabis that Alfie took, as “very small” the medication comes in an oil form which is made out of whole plant cannabis. The medicine he is currently prescribed could cause young Alfie’s organs to fail if he continues taking them.

Members from the all-party parliamentary group, are joining arms with the family for the government to assist the family with Alfie’s fight. Conservative MP Crispin Blunt said, “It would be heartless and cruel not to allow Alfie to access this medication.”

He further explained on how “Parliament really must look at reforming our laws to allow access to cannabis for medical purposes, which has huge public support.” Parliament are considering a license to allow Alfie to legally take cannabis to treat his epilepsy.
