UPDATE: Online hip-hop media mogul Karen Civil confirms Lil Wayne was referring to a deal with Tidal in the announcement.
Last night while on stage at 106KMEL FM’s Summer Jam show in San Francisco, Lil Wayne announced that he “just signed a deal with [his] motherfucking idol, Jay-Z”. But, Weezy didn’t make it clear whether he was talking about a deal with Jay’s label Roc Nation or Tidal, his new music streaming service, leading to a lot of rumours on the matter. Wayne is a co-owner of Tidal, causing speculation that the deal may be with the latter, although his suing of mentor Birdman and label Cash Money Records in January could suggest a signing with Roc Nation in order to leave the label. Wayne released his new record “Glory” through Tidal last week, and so there is also belief that this new joining with Jay may see his new album released through the service too. At the moment it is unclear what is going on, but updates are to follow.
