Lionel Messi has once again entered his name into the record books after securing his fifth Ballon d’Or for World Player of the Year.
The Argentine was up against stiff competition for the 2015 crown, in the form of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona teammate Neymar, but secured 41.33% of the vote.
Having claimed a momentous treble with Barcelona in 2015, Messi also shone with a number of individual goals – most notably against Bayern Munich and Athletic Bilbao.
The latter goal was also up for the Puskas Award, but eventually lost out to Brazilian forward Wendell Lira, who won it for his incredible overhead kick for his side Goianesia.
Both Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the honours list in recent history, with the pair trading places over the last eight years for the No.1 spot.
Elsewhere, Carli Lloyd won Women’s Player of the Year for her efforts in her country’s World Cup win, whilst Barcelona manager Luis Enrique secured the Manager of the Year title.
