After just three weeks, Little Simz is back again with the visuals, but this time she brings her single “Poison Ivy” to life.
The track, featuring Tilla, is taken from her sophomore album Stillness In Wonderland. The video; simple and clean cut, shows Simz playing the guitar and laying down her vocals in the most sincere way, really allowing for the absorption of this love story. The message of the song, itself, is heart ridden and Simz uses personification to describe her lover. The “Poison Ivy” she describes is someone who she knows offers her a relationship full of toxicity, however she finds herself afraid to let go because of the love that she has for him, regardless of their stability. In attempts to fix her insecurities, Simz seeks advice from her lover, who explains that she needs to take things easier; but as her lyrics unfold, we learn that Simz is finding this quite hard to come to terms with.
