The UK’s Health Secretary, Matt Hancocok, has told MPs from London the city will move into Tier 3 of coronavirus restrictions from 1 minute past midnight on Wednesday (December 16).
A London MP told The Independent Mr Hancock confirmed the news in a phone briefing with MPs today (December 14). The change will also come into effect in parts of neighbouring areas Essex and Hertfordshire.
Under tier 3, which is the highest level of restrictions, thousands of bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants will close in the capital. Takeaway, delivery and click and collect services will still be allowed to operate.
People will also be banned from meeting socially indoors and in private gardens with anyone they do not live with or are not in a support bubble with.
It’s also likely fans will not be permitted to enter football stadiums and other sporting venues.
However, people will be able to meet with people from different households in groups of six maximum outdoors in parks and public playgrounds.
The government is due to review all tiers in England on Wednesday (December 16).
