American rapper Mac Miller has been found dead at his home in California, a Los Angeles coroner has confirmed.
According to the Los Angeles country coroners office, the 26-year-old – whose real name was Malcom McCormick – was unresponsive when he was found. Various media outlets have reported that he died from a suspected drug overdose.
In a statement, the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said “In the late morning of September 7, Malcolm McCormick was found unresponsive.
“Authorities were called and Miller was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 (18:51 GMT).”
Several artists have taken to social media to pay tribute to the rapper.
“Rest in Peace to the great soul Mac Miller”, J. Cole wrote in a tweet.
Chance the Rapper also sent out a tweet to offer his condolences.
“I dont know what to say Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever”, he wrote.
“But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him.”
Mac Miller has been open about his struggles with drug addiction throughout his career and mentioned it during interviews while promoting his recent album, ‘Swimming’. Miller was set to go on a 26-date tour to perform the LP this October.
