UK sensation Mahalia is not just providing us with beautiful music as she is now opening up doors for others with the new initiative Sisters In Sound.

The new project has been created by youth-led charity, Small Green Shoots, which Mahalia is supporting as part of her mentorship with Dr. Martens’ ‘Tough As You’ initiative. The programme aims to support women of colour in music through workshops focusing on DJing, music production, content editing and live event management.

Mahalia has said the programme has been launched to tackle the imbalance of opportunities which come in the way of women when it comes to securing a career in the DJing and music production scene.

“I honestly couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the Tough As You initiative,” Mahalia said. “Supporting an organisation like Small Green Shoots just felt right to me. After all of the help and support that they directly gave to me when I was a brand new artist, getting to do something like this with them really is a full circle moment. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone taking part and can’t wait to see the showcase!”

The inspiring scheme is targeted at 16-24-year olds and begins at the end of February, with a live performance to celebrate the workshop taking place on March 8th which also marks International Women’s Day!
