In the latest episode of Genius’ Deconstructed, IllaDaProducer breaks down the making of Eminem’s “KILLSHOT” – arguably one of the most head-turning and controversial tracks of the year.

Only a few months ago we saw the legend that is Eminem go toe-to-toe with fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly. The twos feud heated up following the release of Em’s album Kamikaze, and then Machine Gun Kelly’s diss track “Rap Devil”. Eminem’s response came in the form of “KILLSHOT, which has since racked up over 180 million views on Youtube.

The beat is gritty and reminiscent of old school gangster rap and formed the perfect canvas for hard-hitting bars to go over.

Interestingly whilst breaking down how the track came about, IllaDaProducer admits that the beat was originally meant for The Landlord, Giggs. He then goes onto say that Giggs would often ask him for horror movie type beats.

IllaDaProducer got the call up for an Eminem diss track as soon as news of the MGK’s “Rap Devil” was revealed, to which he responded immediately with the hardest beats he could find. Prior to this the Florida-bred producer had sent Giggs some beats; Gigg’s coincidentally did not end up using the “KILLSHOT” beat which led to IllaDaProducer then sending it to Eminem.

Throughout the rest of the video, IllaDaProducer explains the process, sounds and everything else that went into making the monumental instrumental.

This twisted turn of events led to one of the biggest of tracks of the year and we can only imagine how wavey a Giggs verse on the “KILLSHOT” instrumental would have been. Remix maybe?
