Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has officially been made an MBE for his campaign to end child food poverty.
The football star collected the award from Prince William today (November 9) in Windsor, taking along his mother Melanie.
Rashford received the honour for his high-profile campaign to make sure no child in need went hungry during the first lockdown.
In June last year, the government reversed its decision to end free school vouchers over summer thanks to Rashford’s online campaigning. Following a call with the Man United star in November, the government then pledged £400 million to support children with free meals.
Since then, Rashford has continued to campaign to end child food poverty and has formed a taskforce to tackle the issue.
The ceremony today was the first face-to-face investiture Prince William has hosted since the start of the pandemic.
William tweeted on Tuesday: “Pleased to be back doing investitures in person, celebrating people across the UK who have gone above and beyond for their country and community.”
