Just when we all thought 2016 couldn’t get any more surreal, suddenly another bizarre proposed law surfaces to keep us all on our toes.

Though there’s no denying that divorce rates are at an all time high, this proposed idea, revealed in The Independent says that couples do not want to be “seen to be failing” but “never stop to think ‘why isn’t it working for us?’”. It therefore proposes to swap marriages, for contracts!

While replacing marriages with “10-year contracts” is controversial to say the least, according to the article, relationship expert Dr Nikki Goldstein believes that it is good to allow couples to make their own rules when it comes to marriage, and explains that a contract could “prevent divorce rather than encouraging break-ups.”

As official figures reveal that that rates of divorce in the UK rise and peak between the ages of 40 to 44-years-old, approximately a decade after the average couple ties the knot.

However, for the romance purists out there, it is safe to say this is a concept that may quickly get shot down.
