It seems that Maxsta is finally back in full effect, finding his feet after an indifferent spell working in major label circles following storming breakthrough anthem “East London Is Back”. Having already dropped “No Retreat” at the top of the week, Maxsta continues his recent flurry of releases and reps his endz to fullest with new track entitled “Mare Street Dick Head”, which is lifted from his new EP ‘100 Problems’ (out November 20th).
The 5 track project which sees East London’s Maxsta teaming up with grime producer Maniac and Tri Angle artist Boothroyd, has already produced great results with lead track “100 Problems” dropping at the end of October. Rinse, who are promoting the project say the project is “an unforeseen nod to the past, present and future of grime music” and we’d fully cosign. If you’ve ever felt short-changed by the short-sightedness of new instrumental grime producers and MCs collaborating ,’100 Problems’ solves all of that.
With this track, Boothroyd and Maniac lay down the minimal low-end on this one as Maxsta throws out ferocious, impassioned lyrics on the grittier side of where he calls home. The track is effectively beatless, with it’s minimalism allowing Maxsta to impress with deeper, more sorrowful lyricism. Check out the track below while you wait on the ‘100 Problems’ EP on iTunes.
