McDonald’s have faced controversy down in the depths of the county of Cornwall this week, relating to an advert for their McCrispy burger.
The ad in question was placed opposite a well-known crematorium, leading to a polarised response from local passersby, who expressed a mix of outrage or hilarity at the macabre irony.
Cornwall Live spoke to some members of the public, with one woman telling them, “Although I can see the funny side, it is tasteless and I’m sure some grieving family members won’t like to see it when visiting Penmount for the funeral and cremation of a loved one.”
“No worse than our local council entertaining the idea of allowing a crematorium to be built next door to a retirement village,” said another.
Despite the laughter, McDonald’s responded swiftly to the controversy, saying in a statement, “We were unaware of the road sign in the vicinity of this bus stop.
“However, in light of the concerns raised by CornwallLive, we have asked for our advertisement to be removed.”
