Meek Mill and JAY Z have teamed up to launch Meek’s Dream Chasers Records label under Hov’s Roc Nation brand.
The two artists signed papers to formalise the partnership on Tuesday (July 23) in front of journalists at Roc Nation’s HQ in New York.
As President of the Dream Chasers label, Meek Mill will oversee affairs within the label; as well as build a team to sign artists and help them advance in their music careers. The Dream Chasers label will also handle its own marketing, creative strategies and business affairs.
On the new partnership, Jay Z said: “Everything [Meek Mill] has done leading up to this point shows he is ready to [lead] the next generation. We look at the big picture — this is way beyond signing artists and having hot records.”
In 2012, Meek Mill established the Dream Chasers Records as a label imprint under Maybach Music Group. The rapper is still expected to record his music for Maybach Music Group/Atlantic.
“I think the time is now”, Meek said on his new deal with Roc Nation. “I’m 32 years old, I’m in a nice spot in the music business and I think it’s time for me to focus on growing artists because that’s what I love to do.
“I love to spend time on helping artists grow, and I think it’s time for me to dive in, business-wise.”
At present, Dream Chasers Records – under Roc Nation – has no artists and the company hasn’t specified a timeframe for when they plan to set the wheels rolling but we’re sure it’ll be very soon.
