Last night the 2021 Hyundai Mercury Prize ceremony took place to celebrate the best in British music from a range of different genres.
As well as seeing the talented Arlo Parks being crowned the winner of the prize for her efforts on her debut album Collapsed In Sunbeams, we also saw performances from some of the shortlisted nominees – such as the legend Ghetts and newcomer Berwyn.
During the ceremony, Ghetts gifted viewers with a powerful performance of the intro to his critically-acclaimed album Conflict Of Interest – “Fine Wine” – alongside a live orchestra and backing vocalists.
Compared to Ghetts’ performance, Berwyn’s was a lot more simplistic as he showcased his skills on the keys as well as his lyricism to perform “Glory” from his 2020 mixtape DEMOTAPE/VEGA.
Despite the differences in performances, they’re both equally as captivating and serve as a reminder as to why they received nominations for one of the most prestigious music awards.
