In a post on Twitter, Merky Books has confirmed that Taking Up Space: The Black Girl’s Manifesto for Change by Chelsea Kwakye and Ore Ogunbiyi will be turned into a TV series.
Producer Sid Gentle Films, who were behind the hit series Killing Eve – won the TV rights at auction as they’re set to bring the game-changing book to life.
Taking Up Space was published in June 2019 as the flagship release for #Merky Books – a collaboration between Stormzy and Penguin Random House. In a statement, Sid Gentle Films said they are “delighted to be working on this extraordinary manifesto for hope with Chelsea and Ore.”
Chelsea and Ore added: “We are so incredibly excited to be working with Sid Gentle Films. They have a strong understanding of the core themes of Taking Up Space and are committed to bringing them to life on screen. This a real dream come true.”
