A police officer has been convicted after he admitted to purchasing pornography whilst a family home where a child had died.
The police officer spent over £25 on four sexually explicit films using the family’s Virgin Media television account.
It is believed that the officer, Avi Maharaj, watched two of the films at the victims home as he waited for a coroner to collect the body of the child who had passed away.
The officer is also accused of falsifying evidence in order to cover his tracks.
The regional director for the Independent Office for Police Conduct, Sal Naseem, who investigated the officer after they received a complaint from the victim’s family said, “PC Maharaj’s behaviour was shocking and even more so given he was guarding the property in the absence of the homeowner.”
“Not only were his actions deceitful but he caused considerable distress for the family involved who were dealing with the sudden death of a family member.”
“I am sorry that the family involved had to deal with this while also coping with the tragic loss of their child.”
The officer has pleaded guilty to fraud and will face misconduct procedures shortly.
