Congratulations are in order for Micheal Ward as he takes home the EE Rising Star Award at the 2020 BAFTA awards.
Micheal became one of our favourite actors last year thanks to his starring role in Rapman’s first feature-length film Blue Story and of course in the Netflix reincarnation of Top Boy.
Starring as Jamie, the young drug boss and full-time father figure to his brothers, Micheal Ward was scene-stealing and excellent – earning himself widespread critical acclaim.
Micheal beat Awkwafina, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack Lowden and Kelvin Harrison Jr. for the award and told the Metro in his post-win interview, “The way I see it, I feel like there’s a lot of opportunities. I want to show them there are a lot of opportunities for people like me. It’s not like it was before. We’re taking a step in the right direction. It’s a special time.”
Micheal recently announced on Instagram that he will have a lead role in the upcoming new project Small Axe which will be directed by Steve McQueen – the director behind 12 Years a Slave.
We are hoping that Micheal Ward will also return for season four of Top Boy which Drake recently confirmed via our Instagram.
