Micheal Ward has landed the lead role in the upcoming movie Empire of Light alongside Olivia Colman.
Director Sam Mendes has cast the Top Boy actor to star in the new Searchlight drama, which is expected to drop in late 2022.
While the full plot details are still under wraps, the film is said to be a love story set around a beautiful, old cinema on the South Coast of England during the 1980s.
Sam, who also directed James Bond movie Skyfall back in 2012, said of the upcoming film: “I have long been an admirer of Searchlight and the dynamic way they have produced and released some of my favourite theatrical releases of recent years.
“This project is very close to my heart, and I couldn’t be more delighted that it has found its ideal home.”
This isn’t the first time Micheal Ward will be taking on a movie role, as he previously starred in Rapman’s Blue Story, and has taken on notable lead roles in TV series such as Top Boy and Small Axe: Lovers Rock.
