It has now been announced Reece Parkinson will host BBC Radio 1xtra’s Drivetime Show after MistaJam revealed he is leaving BBC Radio after 15 years at the organisation.

MistaJam took to Twitter to announce the news in a series of tweets.

“After 15 amazing years at the BBC, I feel the time has come for me to move on to the next challenge,” he began.

“From joining in 2005 to host an overnight HipHop show on 1Xtra to turning Radio 1’s Dance Anthems into the most listened to show on BBC Sounds for under 35’s, it’s been an amazing journey filled with moments I’ll never forget.

He added: “I want to thank the entire team both past and present at 1Xtra & Radio 1 for allowing this Black kid from Nottingham a chance to be a broadcaster but most of all, I’d like to thank every single person who’s ever given me their ears.”

Since joining BBC Radio 1xtra in 2005, MistaJam has gone on to become one of the most respected DJs in the country, winning multiple awards and going on to join BBC Radio 1 in 2008 where he’s currently the host of the Dance Anthems in addition to being the presenter of 1xtra’s Drivetime Show.

Replacing MistaJam on Drivetime will be Reece Parkinson who is currently the host of the 1xtra Talks Show on Sunday nights.

MistaJam hasn’t announced his next career move just yet but given his DJing, presenting and A&R skills, we’re sure his “next challenge” will be big!
