Comedian and presenter Mo Gilligan has announced he will be donating his fee for hosting the 2022 Brit Awards to Black-British maternal health charity, Five X More.
He recently revealed his charitable donation on social media.
“Last year I had the year of my life it was amazing so I’m starting how I finished,” he wrote. “I’m starting it by hosting the 2022 @brits award & I’m extremely excited to be donating my @brits fee to @fivexmore_ they do amazing work in the community and when the spotlight is on me it’s only right I shine it on others.”
Five X More is a charity which aims to improve “Black women and birthing people’s maternal health outcomes in the UK”.
On their website, Five X More say of their work: “Five X More is a grassroots organisation committed to changing Black women and birthing people’s maternal health outcomes in the UK. It was initiated in 2019 when two Black mothers came together with the dream of improving maternal mortality rates and health care outcomes for Black women.
“Five X More is dedicated to supporting mothers and birthing people with its campaigning work and recommendations. It focuses on empowering Black women and birthing people to make informed choices and advocate for themselves throughout their pregnancies and after childbirth.”
Five X More thanked Mo for his donation in a tweet which reads: “We really appreciate all your support and for choosing to shine your spotlight on us!
“Well done for all you have achieved this year and everything you do to support the community.”
News of Mo’s donation comes after he was announced as the host of the 2022 BRITS back in November, replacing fellow comedian Jack Whitehall who presented the past four editions of the awards show.
The 2022 BRIT Awards are due to take place on Tuesday 8th February 2022 at the O2 Arena.
