A group of MPs have said cannabis could be legalised in the UK in the next few years.
After taking a “fact-finding trip mission” to Canada – where smoking the drug is allowed – Labour’s David Lammy and the Liberal Democrat’s Sir Norman Lamb believe cannabis will be available to purchase over the counter in the UK.
Conservative MP Jonathan Djanogly, however, thinks it will take another ten years for the UK to legalise the drug.
Speaking on his stance on cannabis, David Lammy said: “I want the market legalised and taken away from crime gangs.
“I want to see the strength of the stuff reduced, labelled and properly organised in this country”.
Despite the trip taken to Canada by the three MPs, the government has said it has “no intentions of changing the law when it comes to legalisation”.
