Following the release of her fourth album Queen, the American rapper tweeted that she wants the South London femcee to record a verse for the remix of her new project’s closing track,  “Coco Chanel”, featuring rap legend Foxy Brown.

“Coco Chanel” is a bar-heavy hip-hop track produced by JBeatzz with dominant dancehall elements that pays clear homage to classic dancehall instrumentals like the infamous 1998 “Bruk Out Riddim”, which was the background to hits by Elephant Man, Bounty Killer and Baby Cham. Foxy Brown revealed on Minaj’s Beats 1 radio show that the collaboration took five minutes to write.

This possible link-up between Nicki and Ms Banks comes after a budding social media friendship between the two, and an invitation for Ms Banks to perform on the UK leg of Nicki Minaj’s co-headlining tour with Future, The NickiHndrxx tour.

The two artists linked up after Nicki tweeted the lyrics to Banks’ verse on the remix to Stylo G’s “Yu Zimmie”.

Following this, both ladies have traded compliments and comments back and forth on Twitter and Instagram for months. Banks even appeared to be one of the first to know the details of Nicki’s highly secretive music plans during her social media hiatus. Ms Banks posted a picture on Instagram captioned “Yung Chun Li vibes” with a similar aesthetic to the single’s artwork, a month before its public release.

Minaj has previously worked with an array of British talent including Parker Ighile, Labrinth, Jessie J, Jessie Ware and Natasha Bedingfield. The “Coco Chanel” remix would follow the release of Ms Bank’s recent project The Coldest Winter Ever, where the rapper showcases her lyrical skill and vocal ability over the 12 tracks.

Whilst we wait for the remix, listen to the original version of “Coco Chanel” right here.
