Back in March, Toronto poet and songwriter Mustafa released his debut solo song “Stay Alive,” featuring production from James Blake. Now, the two have teamed up again on another new track titled “Come Back”.
In the stripped-back session, Mustafa’s effortless and raw vocals are on display while Blake plays the piano along with his smooth backing vocals. Although the set is minimalistic, Mustafa and Jame’s talented musical abilities shine throughout the intimate studio session which was directed by frequent Kanye West collaborator, Nabil Elderkin.
When talking about the track, Mustafa said: “Perpetually grateful for James who helped free me of my own emotional burdens when I was young, to now helping me free these stories of those who’ve passed too young.
“Today marks 2 years without Smoke Dawg. I pray the people you lost come back to you in the form that heals you best, if not a memory, a dream, if not a dream, in their siblings eyes, if not that, than in the way you carry yourself.”
