Netflix will offer users a new way to Netflix and Chill with its latest venture which will see the streaming giant try its hand in the gaming world.

The tech giant has announced that they will expand on the franchising of their biggest titles by turning them into video games. This will begin with the hugely popular drama Stranger Things which will be immortalised as a video game under the title Stranger Things 3: The Game.

Plans have also been revealed for a video game based on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Netflix will not directly produce or create the games at first but will instead license the use of characters and storylines to other production studios and gaming studios that have the capacity to design and develop video games.

Stranger Things has been the first Netflix original series to fully take advantage of franchising. Toys, clothing and a deal with Coca-Cola are a few examples of the merchandise created from the show that is marketed based off of the title’s worldwide success.

On the video game venture, Chris Lee from Netflix said, “We’re looking for opportunities to extend the universe of these shows and films into other mediums. To me, it was really obvious to try to do that into video games.”

The news was announced at the E3 gaming event which took place this year in Los Angeles. As well as this Netflix news, the new Xbox was revealed as well as a host of new games. Read more about this right here on GRM Daily and when you’re done, check out the last episode of GGR here.
