Lifetime is set to release a new documentary which detail the events following its controversial docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly.

Called Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact, the two-hour special film will be hosted by journalist Soledad O’Brien and will chronicle the events following the release of the series and the implications that the docuseries has had on R.Kelly himself, the victims and wider society.

Following the release of the documentary, R.Kelly was dropped from his record label and subsequently arrested and charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.  The charges were confirmed by the Chicago Sun-Times who previously exposed and reported on several of the disgraced artist’s past allegations. Read more about the charges as previously reported on GRM Daily here.

The docuseries pulled in millions of viewers and audiences were shocked by the allegations made in the documentary that described years of alleged historic sexual abuse, misuse of power and orchestrated cover-ups by the R&B singer himself and people within his inner circle.

Following its release, several artists who have tracks with R.Kelly including Ciara, Chance the Rapper and Lady Gaga removed the material from streaming services and in response to the public backlash R. Kelly was receiving following the release of the docuseries, the artist sat down with Gayle King for an emotional interview where he continued to deny the allegations made in the series as well as other accusations from the past.

In the now-viral interview, R. Kelly denied breaking any laws in relation to women and accused everyone in the documentary of lying. He later broke down crying and the interview had to be paused. Rewatch the interview below.
