Nicki Minaj has announced her retirement in a not so subtle tweet.

Taking to Twiter, she posted: “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me.

In the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”

The star has been known to stir up a frenzy amongst her fans via social media so it isn’t quite clear if this is genuine announcement or not. However, her desire to eventually have a family is no secret as she has often spoken about it in interviews.

Last month Nicki, who is dating Kenneth Petty, hinted that she had gotten married changing her twitter name to Mrs Petty and she seemed to confirm this later with a series of tweets. So the news she wants to start a family should come as no surprise.

That isn’t stopping fans weighing in on the matter, one fan tweeting “tomorrow this tweet better be gone”. Though others are less surprised, suggesting that lyrics from her album The Pink Print gives clues as to when she wanted to have children and now is about that time.

The 36- year-old rapper has an accomplished career, with four albums under her belt but the question is, if this is a real retirement, will she give fans one last album or is this just a straight mic drop? Time will tell.
