A non-league side has become the team with the worst start to a season in English football after conceding 122 goals in 10 games.
Stoke Gabriel FC, a South Devon side, have played 10 games so far and they have lost all 10 games. In addition to conceding 122 goals, they have also only scored 2 goals which is the worst start to the season by any English in history.
The team are currently at the bottom of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division East.
Since the coronavirus outbreak, many of the club’s players, coaches and committee members have moved on and much of the squad is now made up of players from the under-18 team.
Despite calls from fans to bring in more experienced players, Stoke Gabriel’s manager Mark Richardson has been surprisingly supportive of their 17-year-old goalkeeper.
“He has been absolutely outstanding all season,” Richardson said of goalkeeper Josh Organ.
“He’s had three man-of-the-match performances and for a 17-year-old lad, he’s been absolutely marvellous all season.”
The club’s chairman Gary Page is also maintaining an optimistic mindset for the rest of the season, saying: “If we end up mid-table this season we’ll be quite happy.
“We’re not looking to win any leagues, we’re not looking to win any cups, although it’d be nice if we won a cup.
“As long as we stay in this league and stay in the league for next season, we’ll build and get stronger.”
