A fire has broken out at the historical Notre-Dame Cathedral in France.
At current, the cause of the fire is unknown but officials are speculating that it may be linked to renovation work. Fire fighters are working to tackle the fire that has already caused the Cathedral’s spire and roof to collapse.
Footage has emerged online of the burning building.
France’s President, Emmanuel Macron, has reacted to the events in Paris.
“Like all of my countrymen, I am sad tonight to see this part of us burn”, he said.
A spokesman for the Notre-Dame Cathedral has said: “There will be nothing left.
“It remains to be seen whether the vault, which protects the cathedral, will be affected or not”.
In 2018, an appeal was made by the Catholic Church to receive funds to repair the crumbling 850-year-old establishment.
