Remember when Drake’s “One Dance” was Number 1 for almost 4 months?

After topping the charts on what seemed to be solely streaming hits alone, the Official Charts Company have changed the way they count up streams versus full body sales.

As of January 2017, it will now take 150 streams to be counted as a sale of a track (compared to the current 100 streams) when working out the total numbers sold.

2016 has seen Drake make streaming history. Not only racking up an astounding 4.7 billion streams this year, he also topped the Spotify Most Streamed Artist of the Year (both in the UK and Worldwide). His stand-out record of the year “One Dance” was streamed 960 million times (which FYI, if played consecutively that would take 5200 years).

“One Dance” is Spotify’s most streamed track of all time, leaving Drake and his co-writers to scoop up a tidy $4.8m in royalties… lovely.
