Amongst all of the usual things we’ve heard about this year’s Olympics, this has to be one of the weirdest.
On Tuesday, the water in the pool where the women’s synchronized divers had just competed went dark green, with no explanation as to why it had suddenly changed from blue. The pool next to it which is used for water polo looked normal.
Officials stated, “The water quality at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre was tested and there were no risks for the athletes. We are investigating the cause.”
The head of olympic swimming’s governing body was shocked, and suggested that maybe athletes had requested the colour change so there was less glare from the sun’s reflection on the pool.
Organisers still said that the pool was “safe”, but we’re not so sure.
