Pa Salieu has been shortlisted for the BRIT Awards’ 2021 Rising Star prize, which recognises the future stars of UK pop.

The Coventry rapper, alongside fellow nominees Griff and Rina Sawayama, was selected by a panel of industry experts including songwriters, press and online music editors, producers and radio & TV heads of music for the award.

The Rising Star award is open to British artists who haven’t entered the UK’s Official Albums Chart Top 20 yet, and have not scored more than a Top 20 hit on the Official Singles Chart.

The prize, which was previously called critics choice until last year, has previously gone to artists such as Jorja Smith, Adele and Celeste.

Salieu said of his nomination: “I am very grateful to be shortlisted for this BRIT award. Love and blessings every time! Thanks to everyone supporting my journey so far.”

The nomination is another big move for Pa Salieu in 2021, following his U.S. TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and his BBC Sounds Of 2021 win.

The winner of the 2021 BRITs Rising Star will be revealed on Friday March 19.
