Wayne Shaw, goalkeeping coach and reserve keeper for FA Cup heroes Sutton United, has been embroiled in a betting scandal.
During last night’s televised game against Arsenal, the portly gent was filmed eating a pie during the game, much to most viewers’ amusement. However, there is speculation that it was all a stunt due to a betting company placing odds on him doing just that pre-kick off.
The Gambling Commission have now confirmed they have launched an investigation into a possible breach of regulations. Richard Watson, the commission’s enforcement and intelligence director, said, “Integrity in sport is not a joke and we have opened an investigation to establish exactly what happened.”
Shaw himself has put the incident down to just “banter” and that he hadn’t put any money on the bet himself.
Despite this however, rumours are now spreading that he has been asked to resign from his position at Sutton United and has accepted.
Hopefully this is all just pie in the sky and Shaw will be returning to the pitch for them very soon.
