Piers Morgan’s rants on Good Morning Britain following Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey have become the most complained about TV moments ever, according to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.

Piers’ rant about the Duchess Of Sussex and his heated exchange with weatherman Alex Beresford resulted in Ofcom receiving 57,121 complaints in total.

An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this issue has attracted the highest number of complaints since our reporting began.”

The morning after Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah aired on U.S. TV – in which Megan revealed she considered suicide – Piers said on Good Morning Britain he “didn’t believe a word” of it, sparking criticism from mental health charities.

The day after (March 9), Piers got into a row with Alex Beresford regarding his comments on Meghan, which resulted in Piers storming off air. This was followed by news Piers had quit Good Morning Britain later on in the day.

Speaking outside his home the following morning, Morgan said of Meghan: “I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.”

The spokesperson for Ofcom added that an investigation into Piers’ comments is ongoing.
