Around 500 police inquiries based on toxicology results from drink and drug tests are now under review after several employees from Randox Testing Services have been arrested.

RTS is a laboratory that analyses blood, saliva and hair samples on behalf of the police in investigations that focus on drink and drug testing. The lab in question, based in Manchester, conducted an internal investigation on test manipulation before alerting the Greater Manchester Police.

The arrests mean that hundreds of results require reviewing, also suggesting that hundreds of people might’ve been convicted based on manipulated toxicology test results. Despite the high number of cases needing to be reviewed, Randox Testing Services have said that they expect some tests to be “rerun to provide robust, uncompromised results”.

Greater Manchester Police have arrested two men, aged 47 and 31, on suspicion of “perverting the course of justice”.
