Bath’s iconic Royal Crescent was in the spotlight for an unexpected reason yesterday morning.
As residents and walkers strolled through the area, they noticed that a new addition had been mowed into the usually pristine lawn: a phallic feature.
The rather explicit design has left locals and Bath residents scratching their heads as to who could be responsible and why.
The appearance of the phallus comes just two days before the Coronation of King Charles III, which is set to take place at 11am on Saturday. People all over the country are planning street parties and picnics to celebrate the event, including in the grounds of The Royal Crescent.
The timing of the appearance has caused some to wonder if it was a deliberate act of rebellion or a political statement.
The Royal Crescent is one of the most exclusive and visited areas in Bath, renowned for its stunning 18th century Georgian architecture and perfectly manicured lawns. The addition of the phallic feature is certainly a stark contrast to the area’s usual grandeur.
The lawns are considered the crown jewel of the Crescent and are a nod to the country’s most famous landscape architect and gardener, Capability Brown.
The mystery of who was responsible for the phallic addition may never be solved, but it certainly adds an unexpected twist to the history of this iconic area.
