Syrian Muslim-American poet and activist Mona Haydar has just dropped her first ever rap single, while pregnant. Did we mention it’s sick?
The track has been released in honour of the world’s first Muslim Women’s day on March 27th, with Haydar wanting to fight the current rise of Islamophobia in the world.
Haydar and her husband Sebastian Robins, who converted to Islam in 2012 after meeting her, have long been trying to challenge stereotypes around Islam, wanting to “conquer fear through conversation.”
After the terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, the couple began the #AskAMuslim initiative, where they set up booths around Massachusetts to talk to people who have questions about their faith.
We’re hoping this isn’t the last from Haydar, but watch this space for her return.
