Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh, has passed away at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace has announced.

News of Prince Philip’s death was confirmed in a statement from the palace.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the statement reads.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”Further announcements will made in due course.”The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

The Duke was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years and became the longest-serving consort in British history.

In November of 1947, the pair had their wedding and went on to have four children together – Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.

After making 20,000 solo engagements, Prince Philip retired from his own programme of royal duties in May 2017 but he did occasionally support the Queen at big events.

On February 16 this year, the Duke was hospitalised for “a few days of observation and rest” after feeling unwell, but later contracted an infection and was later transferred to a leading cardiac unit. He was released on March 16 after spending four weeks in hospital which was his longest ever stay in hospital.

No official details have been released about the Duke’s funeral at present but it’s understood he will be given a royal ceremonial funeral rather than a state funeral, in line with his wishes.
