QPR has issued a statement in response to the recent legal developments involving their midfielder Ilias Chair.

The Morocco international has reportedly been sentenced to a year in jail, with an additional 12-month suspended sentence, by a court in Antwerp, where he grew up.

This verdict stems from an assault charge, with Chair’s brother, Jaber, also receiving a prison sentence. The incident involves an altercation with a truck driver, identified as Niels T, resulting in serious injuries, including a fractured skull, allegedly caused by a rock thrown by Chair.

In a communication to The Sun, it was revealed that Chair has been ordered to pay £13,400 in compensation to the victim.

QPR stated, “The legal proceeding is yet to reach its conclusion. As such, the club will be making no further comment at this stage.”

Antwerp’s public prosecutor described the severity of the incident during a January hearing, highlighting the profound impact on Niels T, who faced critical condition and prolonged hospitalisation.

Despite Chair’s significant role for QPR this season, with 31 appearances, four goals and five assists in the Championship, the club finds itself in dire straits, battling relegation.
