A protest was held outside Channel 5’s broadcasting house earlier this week in response to Channel 5’s two-part series Gangland, which interviewed drug dealers and people involved in gangs in the UK and France. The documentary of course did not come without controversy.

The man leading the protests references the bad timing of the documentary’s broadcast last November, during a time when poverty is at its worst and young people are increasingly disillusioned. He references Nazi Propaganda Minster Joseph Goebbels’ violent propaganda, describing how the impression given in Gangland is 1000x worse, and is taking advantage of a weak society.

A woman at the protest adds that she thinks the documentary glamorises the lifestyles it describes and will encourage young people to join gangs.
