Applications Open For ‘Power Up’ Initiative To Support Black Music Creators & Industry Professionals

11 February 2021

Applications have opened for PRS Foundation’s new initiative which aims to support Black music creators and industry professionals.

Named Power Up, the initiative – which is in in partnership with the Black Music Coalition, YouTube Music, Beggars Group and several music industry partners – will address anti-Black racism and disparities in the music sector, while a holistic Participant Programme has been set up to support Black talent within the music industry.

The ‘Power Up Participant Programme’ is a long-term network which will provide bespoke support to 20 Black music creators and 20 Black executives and industry professionals at crucial career stages each year, while addressing the barriers they face.

The successful participants will be assisted through:

  • Grant support of up to £15,000
  • Capacity building and mentoring
  • Support from partners
  • Marketing support

Power Up Ambassador Alex Boateng said: “Power Up is needed. The opportunities still don’t match the talent in our industry, it’s changing – but we need to do more. So it’s a pleasure to help.”

Black music creators and industry professionals have one month to apply to the programme, with the deadline to apply being on Wednesday 10th March (6pm). Successful applicants will be announced in April 2021.
