Following the reports of a new Playstation 5 landing in the new year, Sony are now reported to be working on a new kind of controller according to patent filings.

The documentation has shown a new controller that looks like the existing DualShock model, however; this new one includes extra buttons in places which have never been seen on a PS controller before.

It has not been made clear on whether the new controller will be a part of the current generation of PlayStation consoles or whether it will exclusively be a part of the new PS5 which will be coming next year.

However, although these new controller plans seem exciting for all the gaming-fanatics out there, these new controllers are not nailed on to be the official controllers. This has been revealed as part of a patent application which was granted on 26 December, and was discovered by the gaming website, Polygon. Companies are known to often file for patents for devices that tend to never even end up on the market, and sometimes end up doing so, but in a different form.

The new controller appears to be largely similar to the existing DualShock controller for the PlayStation 4 but the new one has buttons on the back. While they are placed behind where the current analogue sticks sit, Polygon have noted that they could move to a different location – but where else could they be placed?

As the new controller has not been announced as one which will be accessible for a specific consoles or just the one, it has also been noted to have a micro-USB charging port as well as some other sick new features.

With more news expected to come from he eagerly awaited Playstation 5, all the avid gamers out there will have to wait just a little while longer until the official announcements are made by Sony and PlayStation.
