In exciting gaming news, the PS5 is reportedly set to receive an expansion this summer.

According to reports, an SSD storage expansion for the console is set to be released later this year.

A more powerful cooling fan will also be added in a bid to help the PS5 not to overheat.

Currently, the Playstation 5 allows game storage of up to 667GB and with games like Call of Duty for example taking up to 133GB, it is understandable that some players will need more storage in order to keep up with their growing gaming library.

A Sony spokesperson told Bloomberg, “As previously announced, we are working to enable M.2 SSD storage expansion for PlayStation 5. The timing has not been announced and details will be shared later.”

The Playstation 5 was released in November and many fans have struggled to get their hands on the console.

Due to scalpers, stock shortages and more, many fans have been left disappointed with the Playstation 5’s lack of availability.

Tim Ryan, the President and Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, recently addressed Sony’s stock issues and said:

“Demand was greater than we anticipated. That, along with the complexities of the supply chain issues, resulted in a slightly lower supply than we initially anticipated.”

“It will get better every month throughout 2021. The pace of the improvement in the supply chain will gather throughout the course of the year, so by the time we get to the second half of [2021], you’re going to be seeing really decent numbers indeed.”
