A short while after revealing the longlist of nominations, the BBC have finally announced the winner of their prestigious Sound Of 2017 competition.

This year it’s Lewisham-born singer/songwriter and general bad gyal Ray BLK who walks away with the prize, joining an elite list of previous winners including the likes of Sam Smith, Adele and 50 Cent.

Song’s like “My Hood“, “Chill Out” and her stellar mini EP Durt have been enough to fend off some serious competition on this year’s list.

Rag’n’Bone Man finished as runner up, while Raye, Jorja Smith and Nadia Rose finished in third, fourth and fifth place respectively.

Other dons on the list included AJ Tracey, Dave and Stefflon Don, who unfortunately all missed out on a place on the short list.

Congratulations to Ray BLK and everybody else on there. It has been a strong list for our scene and diversity in general, and major props are in order for the winner.
